Privacy policy
Local Community is run by [Your name or company] ("we"). This page explains what we keep about you, why, and what you can do about it. If anything is unclear, email [support email].
What we keep
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Your email address | To sign you in with a 6-digit code, and to send the daily email if you choose it. |
| Your name, a line about you and your photo | So neighbours know who they're dealing with. |
| Your full postcode | To show posts, groups and events near you. It is kept private: nobody else sees it, not even you in the app. We turn it into an approximate point on the map and only use that to work out distances. |
| The distance you pick | To decide how far your feed reaches. |
| Posts, messages, Space chats, events and photos you share | To run the app. Messages are only seen by the people in the chat. |
| Tokens and give-away history, including missed collections | To keep give-aways fair. Your reliability record is private to you. |
| People you look after, and their daily check-ins | Only if you use Look after someone. Seen by you and the neighbours you choose. |
| Business details | Only if you list a business. |
| Reports and blocks | To keep communities safe. |
We never show anyone's address. Hand-overs use public spots, and details are shared in private chat.
Our legal reasons
- To provide the service you signed up for: your account, posts, messages, tokens and the local feed.
- Legitimate interests: keeping the app safe and fair, stopping misuse, and fixing problems.
- Your consent: the daily email, which you can turn off at any time.
Who else handles your data
- Cloudflare runs the app, stores the data and photos, and sends our emails.
- postcodes.io (open UK postcode data) is asked to turn your postcode into an approximate point when you enter it. We don't send it anything else.
- Stripe will handle payments for the token allowance once charging starts. We never see your card details.
We don't sell your data, show adverts, or use tracking or advertising cookies.
Cookies and storage
We use one cookie to keep you signed in. The app also saves a few things on your phone, like your meeting point for when there's no internet, and the last feed you saw so it opens quickly. None of this is used to track you.
How long we keep it
We keep your account until you ask us to delete it. Ended posts stay on your own page for 60 days and are kept in our records after that. Ask us to delete your account and we will remove your details, posts, photos and messages, apart from anything we must keep to deal with a safety report.
Your rights
You can ask to see the data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or object to how we use it. Email [support email] and we will reply within one month. If you're not happy with our answer, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Age
Local Community is for people aged 18 and over.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will tell you in the app first.
