Free Things to Do in Penwortham
Penwortham sits just over the River Ribble from Preston, and a lot of the best things to do there are outdoors and free. Here are ideas for a weekend that costs nothing, plus how to find people to do them with.
Walk by the River Ribble
Paths along the river lead towards Preston's Avenham and Miller Parks on the other bank. Much of the route is flat, good for buggies and pleasant in any season. Take a flask and make a morning of it.
Join now, it's freeVisit Hurst Grange Park
Hurst Grange Park is a local green space with woodland paths and open grass. It is a good spot for children to run about, for a quiet walk, or for meeting friends with a picnic in summer.
Have a picnic with neighbours
A picnic is easier to organise than a party. Pick a date, a park and a time, then post it on Local Now and ask everyone to bring one thing. If the weather turns, move it to someone's garden.
Join a free local group
Many running groups, walking groups, craft circles and parent meetups are free to join. Search Spaces on Local Now for Penwortham and nearby towns to see what is on this week, or start your own if you can't find the group you want.
Swap instead of shop
If you were planning to spend Saturday buying things, try giving and swapping instead. Clear out a cupboard, give away what you don't need on Local Now, and see what neighbours are offering. Children's clothes, books and toys are some of the most swapped items.
Learn something new
Use a skill swap to learn something from a neighbour for free, such as basic bike repair, sewing or cooking. You spend an hour helping someone else in return, and nobody pays.
